She drove up in a dilapidated pick up truck. She had just been released from an assisted living facility that had turned abusive. She just barely missed the qualifications for food stamps by a mere six dollars.
With hungry eyes she asked a store employee,
"where is the nearest food pantry?"
the employee stopped, stunned, and replied
"we have one here"
The woman didn't know that the very store she was standing in was the place that would feed her hunger. She was handed bags of food that very day and signed up for the pantry.
She was helped back to her pick up with bags of bread, milk, and eggs, and as she climbed in she was handed something that most food pantries neglect, a gallon bag of dog chow. The food pantry doesn't just serve people's physical need for food, but it serves the whole person. If that means a bag of dog chow, then we believe Jesus would be more than willing to do that too.
