Perhaps the most memorable story from my years that I volunteered with the youth was of a young man, Justin, with too much money and too much time on his hands. Like many young people he had access to drugs in his school and found himself getting hooked on a number of substances. His parents were busy and somewhat self-absorbed leaving their sons to make their own way much of the time. I recall one night during our regular youth meeting we were having a particularly powerful discussion about worldly things and their grip on us. Justin was obviously moved by it and asked to see me afterwards. When everyone had left we were still standing out in the parking lot. It was then that he produced a couple of bongs from his car. We talked, prayed, and cried for a good while as he shared with me his desire to be free from the drugs that were taking their hold on his life. After much encouragement and reassurance that he was not alone against it, we went to the dumpster out back and smashed everything.
Have you ever had questions about who exactly you are and why exactly you are here and how exactly are you supposed to function in this world?
and.....
Do you enjoy smashing things?
