About Us

Who we are, where we come from, and where we're headed as a church family

Who we are

Here's the deal, Riverside Community Church cares about one thing more than anything else, Jesus. We are a family of individuals that have found hope in Jesus, and simply want as many people as possible to experience that exact same freedom.

SOME INTEResting things about us

We say the Shema. This is from Jesus’ own lips (Matt. 22:37) and He would have said it 2 maybe 3 times daily. Because we want to be like Him we choose to remember Him in this way.

The rock wall up front is a dry stack Texas Limestone which reminds us of the Western Wall in Jerusalem. The wall is an historic place of worship and prayer and it helps us remember we too are a house of worship and prayer. (Isaiah 56:7 - Matt. 21:13)

Where we come from

Our beginnings

Riverside Community Church is a daughter church of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church. During a time of prayer in 1996, the central leadership of AHUMC realized the call to plant a church in the Texas Hill Country. Though autonomous, we have prayerfully remained in deep family connection.

Our name, Riverside, though rather vanilla, is quite profound. God gave the name as a reminder that we are called to be a people who stand at the river's edge with wet feet, giving a hand to those God is rescuing from chaos, always remembering we, too, were rescued.

The loft coffee house

After introductory meetings in homes, in 2004 we began meeting in the building that would eventually become The Loft Coffee House. The Loft is a place of hospitality and welcome in our community. It's full of stories of hope, connection, healing and great coffee.

The Hope center

Seeing the unique and deep need in our local community, the Hope Center was born in 2004. It is a place where needs are connected with resources, bringing rest in the storm of crisis.

spring branch middle school

To our surprise God launched mission and ministry before our first public worship. Then, with excitement we opened up community-wide at Spring Branch Middle School on Resurrection Sunday 2005.

Local + global outreach

A core piece of our DNA is mission work around the world. From the very beginning we've been sponsoring and adopting orphans, building churches, schools and digging fresh water wells.

the steakhouse

Finding a more permanent home for a wandering people takes some time. But when a steak restaurant named Cowcatchers ended its run, an orphaned building met a wandering people and a beautiful home was established in 2014.

We are being shaped into a family, learning what it means to live as if we have a home. We are a part of a growing worldwide movement of people following Jesus to become like Him. You are invited to join us.

Where we're headed

What's the bottom line? More than ever, Riverside Community Church is committed to fostering a family built around hope. Hope for the future. Hope for better. Hope for progress. Hope in Jesus. And as we move forward as a church family, inclusion and belonging remain at the center of who we are as followers of Christ.
